On Saturday I celebrated Juneteenth, which was established as a federal holiday this year! Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It began in Galveston, Texas in 1865 and is celebrated annually on June 19th. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. Happy Juneteenth, everyone!
