Sign Greeters Celebrates At Home Bat and Bar Mitzvahs!

All life celebrations are looking different these days, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be special! I heard about some young ladies and young men who were celebrating their Bat and Bar Mitzvahs at home. I knew I could add something fun for each of them since they could not have traditional services or parties to mark the occasion. Even with COVID, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is an important milestone to celebrate in a big way. I am so happy I could help out. Mazel tov to Ryan, Rachel, Jonah, Emily, Andi, and Joey!

Celebrating Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heroes

My friends at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital have been working tirelessly to care for their patients. I really wanted to do something kind for the staff at the Health Specialty Center in Wellington. What could I do to show how much we appreciate them? I decided to deliver a greeting! I really love giving back to all of our Sign Greeters communities and I hope that this sign brings big smiles to everyone! All of us at Sign Greeters are so grateful for these healthcare heroes.

A Best Friend’s Birthday Surprise!

I love surprises! I helped Andreas’s best friend with a big surprise when I delivered this 16th birthday greeting in Phoenix. I didn’t even get pricked by a cactus this time! Andreas and his best friend go to Brophy Prep, so I used their school colors in the greeting. GO BRONCOS! I hope Andreas had a great 16th birthday.

Welcome Back, Epstein Eagles!

The Epstein School in Atlanta, Georgia wanted to celebrate back to school week in a special way. Due to COVID, The Epstein School had two separate back to school days for some of their students on the Epstein campus in Sandy Springs! Other students went back to school remotely. I was a busy birdie, installing two big signs for them for the occasion. I hope everyone at Epstein has a wonderful, safe, and successful year. Go Eagles!

An Extra Warm Welcome Home

I recently got a phone call from Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. A wonderful 16 year old named Daniela had been in the hospital for THREE months! After a long health journey, she was finally ready to leave the hospital and come home. The staff at Joe DiMaggio wanted to make sure that Daniela and her family had an extra special welcome home, so I delivered a surprise greeting in their yard! I heard that Daniela and her family were so appreciative and overwhelmed by the surprise. My favorite part of delivering greetings is knowing that I can bring happiness and a smile to people. All of us at Sign Greeters wish continued health and happiness to Daniela and her family!

Sign Greeters Cheers Up Bexley Seniors

I heard there were some high school seniors in need of cheering up, so I flew out to Columbus, Ohio to help. Bexley City Schools are virtual this year and the seniors are understandably a little sad about it. Senior Libby’s mom decided it would be a good idea to have me come cheer up Libby and her friends. Libby invited some friends over for breakfast before their first day of virtual school. I delivered a special greeting for them and they were so excited! I hope they have a great year, despite the new challenges of virtual school.

Back to School at Park Springs Elementary

It’s back to school time in Broward County, Florida. Park Springs Elementary School wanted to show some extra love for their teachers, school staff, and school administration, so I helped them decorate the lawn with a custom welcome back to school sign! I stuck around Coral Springs because I heard Park Springs Elementary School was hosting a drive by parade for their new kindergarten students. The new kindergarten class was so excited about their greeting, which made them feel super special and welcome at their new school. I hope everyone at Park Springs has a successful and safe school year. Go Panthers!

Sign Greeters is a New Family Tradition

When I delivered this 8th birthday greeting for Henry, I unknowingly began a new family tradition for Henry and his siblings! Henry loved his sign so much that he cried at the end of his birthday because he knew I had to take his greeting down the next morning. Henry’s mom quickly asked me if I could return the following week for Henry’s younger sister Louise, who was celebrating her 4th birthday. Of course, I said yes! I’ve been told that Henry and Louise have a brother who has already been plotting his own birthday greeting too. I think Sign Greeters and I are the perfect birthday tradition for this sweet family!

Double the Fun: Twin Birthdays!

Lucky me, I got to deliver birthday greetings for two sets of twins in Orlando! Double trouble, indeed. David and Isaac turned 18, while Maddie and Ellie turned 16. I hope both sets of twins enjoyed their birthday greetings. I wonder if I’ll ever deliver greetings for three sets of triplets… hopefully not on the same day!

Amanda’s Mission

Sometimes I get to deliver greetings for occasions that are extra special and important. Recently I had such an opportunity when I delivered this greeting for sweet Amanda on her final day of chemotherapy.

Amanda was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at 16 years old. Five days before her 17th birthday, she began an incredibly tough course of chemotherapy. Amanda was treated at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, where she became very close friends with Catherine Williams. Catherine was also undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma and just one year older than Amanda. Osteosarcoma is typically treated with MAP chemotherapy, which is a combination of three different chemotherapy drugs. Amanda went through four rounds of MAP chemotherapy prior to having limb salvage surgery. After surgery and physical therapy, she faced another cycle of MAP chemo. Despite complications from chemotherapy, a second surgery, and all of the awful side effects of chemo, Amanda completed her final round of chemo like a warrior. We were humbled and honored to be able to help her celebrate this day.

Unfortunately, osteosarcoma does not always respond to MAP chemotherapy. Catherine’s cancer was much more advanced when she was diagnosed and MAP chemo did not work for her. She tried other courses of treatment, including radiation and clinical trials, but sadly nothing worked. Catherine Williams passed away in early June at age 18. Amanda was frustrated by the failure of Catherine’s treatments and began researching MAP. Amanda discovered that MAP chemotherapy protocol had not been changed in over 40 years. She channeled her frustration into establishing The Osteosarcoma Society, in memory of her friend Catherine. Amanda hopes to use her foundation to spread awareness and raise money for research. Osteosarcoma is one of the most common adolescent cancers, but the treatment options are quite limited. Amanda’s goal is to fund more cutting edge research for osteosarcoma treatment. She has already raised $50,000 to fund a research project headed by Dr. Adam Durbin.

If you would like more information about The Osteosarcoma Society, please visit www.the-osteosarcoma-society.com. If you would like to donate to help Amanda fund more research, please visit www.gofundme.com/the-osteosarcoma-society. If you would like to read Amanda’s story in her own words, please visit rallyfoundation.org/rally-kid-amanda.

All of us at Sign Greeters are in complete awe of Amanda’s determination and kindness through her own battle with osteosarcoma, as well as through the grief of losing a friend to the same disease. We wish Amanda continued good health and we hope that we can help amplify her mission.

Sign Greeters Welcomes You Home!

I recently spent some time in Georgia delivering greetings. One family purchased a new home, another family purchased a lake house, and another family broke ground on their new build dream house! I loved delivering warm wishes for these families. I hope each of them create wonderful memories in their new homes.

Back to School in Arizona!

I had lots of back to school greetings to deliver last week! I flew all the way to Phoenix, Arizona to deliver one to Hopi Elementary School. Like much of the country, Hopi Elementary is heading back to school virtually due to COVID. Even though students won’t be at school, I wanted to help spread school spirit. I think this greeting and a gorgeous view of Camelback Mountain should do the trick! Go Hawks!
